Georgian Diaspora Patron Icon of Our Lady

 By blessing of All Georgia Catholicos-Patriarch, the Office of the State Minister of Georgia for Diaspora Issues donated an icon of the Mother of God – “You are the Vineyard” to Kashveti, St.George Church. The Staff of the State Minister’s Office bought the icon at their own funds in the name of Georgian Diaspora, on October 14, last year, on Svetitskhovloba Holyday.
As the public was informed, on October 14, 2014 in the frames of “Global Diaspora Week” organized by the Office of the State Minister in support of Georgian Diaspora a marathon run was arranged which started in front of the Ukrainian Embassy to show as well the solidarity to Ukrainian people. It finished symbolically at the Freedom Square and the staff of the State Minister’s Office passed the icon to State Minister. Georgian compatriots living abroad, Ukrainian friends and the representatives of various organizations also participated in the event and expressed willingness to donate the icon to a church.
At 1 pm., the staff of the State Minister’s Office of Georgia for Diaspora Issues, the representatives of Georgia Diaspora being in Georgia at present, the members of the Public Council by the State Minister, as well as the MPs of Georgian Parliament Diaspora Committee gathered in the Cathedral. Gela Dumbadze, State Minister personally brought the Icon. He was met by the Prior, Deacon Michael /Popkhadze/ and the clergy.  Father Michael read the Virgin Mary prayer. David Chikvaidze, Ph.D., Head of State Office Analytical Department participated in the service as a book-reader. Father Michael delivered a sermon and blessed the gathered people. It should be noted that Georgian Diaspora and compatriots abroad were able to watch the church service in live broadcast via the the State Minister’s Office website.
The icon of Our Lady “You are the Vineyard” is placed at Kashveti Church as a special donation in the name of Georgian Diaspora. Our compatriots living abroad and their relatives in Georgia now can pray in front of it.
