Georgian Diaspora in the Republic of Armenia
According to unofficial data, about 1500 Georgian citizens live in the Republic of Armenia. Most of them reside in Yerevan. There is only one Georgian Diaspora organization that aims to preserve its national identity and Georgian culture, language, folklore and history.
Georgian Community “Iveria”,
It is a charitable, public organization registered since 1997. The Community founder and its first president was Tina Asatiani, a scientist. In 2005, Svetlana Namchevadze, Vice-President was elected as a President. Georgian Sunday school and folklore ensemble of song and dance “Imedi” /Hope/. From 2004, by support of Armenian Ministry of Culture the Community “Iveria” publishes a newspaper – “Iveria” in two languages.
